According to the Singapore "Lianhe Zaobao" website reported on December 19, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar pointed out that the country has implemented more than 40 years of "learning to the East" policy, in addition to the original set to learn from Japan and South Korea, and now also includes learning from China.

        Anwar said in an interview published by Japan's Asahi Shimbun on the 18th that Malaysia has long regarded Japan and South Korea as models of economic development, and now it is also interested in learning from China.

        "We have to be open to policies that have been in place for more than 40 years and make adjustments," Anwar said.

        He added: "I would not say that 'East' means only Japan and South Korea, but not China.Today, when we say 'east,' it's east, including China."

        He noted that digital technologies, cyber security and other issues are changing the world and Malaysia must expand this decades-old policy and separate the wheat from the chaff.

        Anwar also mentioned that when he attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting in the United States in November, he was asked why Malaysia favored China, and his reply was "because of the increase in Chinese investment."
